As Managing Director Mr. Coutu is responsible for firm strategy, business development and overall client relations. Brian established Bullpen in 2006 as a boutique consultancy focused primarily on risk & compliance strategy and internal controls. Under Brian's leadership Bullpen has expanded its customer base and core consulting services to include outsourced internal audit, operational process improvement, financial and SEC reporting support. Brian's expertise in data utilization and application development has also spurred new offerings through Bullpen's "Custom Solutions".
Prior to Bullpen Brian led effective Sarbanes-Oxley compliance programs at two Fortune 500 organizations, The Gillette Company and Fisher Scientific International ("Fisher"). Brian also served as Fisher's Audit Director, held senior financial, operational and systems (SAP) integrations positions for Gillette and served as Controller for venture-backed OneCore Financial Network. Brian began his career in KPMG's Audit Practice.
Brian holds a BSBA from Merrimack College.
As Executive Director Mr. MacLean is responsible for client engagement execution and new business development. Jim has extensive hands-on experience working with both public and private global companies in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, operational improvements, global reporting, technical accounting, pricing, best practices, outsourcing, systems implementations, and the coordination and execution of legal, treasury and tax strategies throughout finance organizations.
Prior to joining Bullpen, Jim was the Corporate Controller for Accudyne Industries, an industrial manufacturer of pumps and compressors purchased by The Carlyle Group and BC Partners from United Technologies for $3.4 Billion. Jim has also served as Chief Financial Officer for Ropes & Gray, an AmLaw 50 law firm, as well as in senior level positions in M&A and Finance at Textron Inc and The Gillette Company. Jim began his career in the Boston office of KPMG.
Jim holds an MBA from Providence College, and a BS Finance from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth.
As Director Mr. Hickox is responsible for successfully managing all aspects of individual client engagements. Robert's expertise includes Sarbanes Oxley readiness & on-going maintenance programs, business process improvement projects, acquisition & divestiture accounting and reporting, and SEC reporting.
Robert brings over 13 years of client service and industry experience. Prior to Bullpen Robert owned and operated Ox Consulting Group, LLC and also served as a Senior Manager for CFGI, a Boston based consulting firm. Earlier in his career Robert held Internal Audit management roles with Talbots and in the assurance and advisory practice at Ernst & Young LLP.
